Bondi Reveals Probe into Trump Opponents and Jeffrey Epstein Connections
On Friday, the Attorney General designated interim US attorney Jay Clayton to head an investigation into political adversaries of the President and their relationships with the late financier. This decision came just after Trump directed her to launch the probe.
During an announcement, Bondi praised Clayton as “a highly skilled and reliable legal expert”. The official remarked, “As with all matters, the department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people.”
This action seems to diverge from a July memo from justice department officials which declared that documents related to Epstein lacked grounds for further inquiries. As per the document, authorities “did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties”
The President Calls for Scrutiny of Political Opponents in the Epstein Matter
The announcement coincides with growing pressure from Trump on congressional Republicans to block the public disclosure of Epstein-related documents before an upcoming House vote in the coming days. Several lawmakers are anticipated to back the release.
Recently released emails from Epstein have brought attention to Trump’s past involvement with the sex trafficker, revealing information that he knew more about Epstein’s conduct than he has previously let on.
On Friday, Trump declared he would direct the DOJ to investigate connections between Epstein and Democratic figures, specifically naming Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman. Interestingly, Trump also described the “Epstein hoax” as a “scam”.
